Shelter is a space to observe the quiet presence of nature that is entangled, but often overlooked in urban coastal environments. Imagery in this sculptural animation is sourced from field guides that describe the biodiversity in Southern Coastal Vancouver Island. These taxonomic samples were scanned and translated into a silkscreen print, which becomes illuminated through LED lighting. Imagery of varying flora and fauna bursts forward and then quickly recedes, disappearing from view and becoming transparent. In this process of disappearance, imagery collages itself back into the environment that rests behind the shelter.
